Do colleges look at these grades?

My brother is an 8th grader, but he takes Spanish II at the local high school. He got an 88, but my mom was really mad because she believes that since this is a high school class, colleges will look at this score. If colleges look at these scores, will they give more leniency since my brother is technically still a middle school-er?
