Should officers be entitled to gratuities such as free coffee or perhaps a discount at the local pizza shop?

i don't think they're entitled to them, the police officers should never expect more than their pay and benefits for doing their job. But if local shop owners want to thank them for putting their lives in danger to protect the community, by all means they should be able to give the police a coffee now and then. It should be at the discretion of the shop owner, and there should clearly be no expectation of it on the part of the officers. And there should DEFINITELY be no retribution for failing to provide extras.
